Girls basketball: Roberson scores 21 points, leads Generals past Redskins
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Haylea Roberson sank five 3-pointers Monday night, leading the Winfield girls basketball team to a 53-50 win over visiting Hurricane.
Roberson's 21 points led the Generals (9-9), who needed every one of those points in holding off a late Redskins (5-13) rally to escape with the win.
Aubrey Barber had 23 points for Hurricane, while Abbie Watson - the Kanawha Valley's leading scorer - added 18. The remainder of the Redskins roster, however, managed just eight points the entire game.
In other games Monday:
Nitro 64, Lincoln County 34 - Savannah Shamblin scored a game-high 20 points to lead the Wildcats to a victory over the Panthers in Hamlin.
Halie Miller had 13 points and Maddie Godbey had 10 points for Nitro (9-9).
Haley Price led Lincoln County (2-16) with nine points.
Teays Valley Christian 51, Ohio Valley Christian 28 - Olivia Hill had 15 points to lead the Lions to the home win.
Christa Larue added 13 points and Gabby Harrah had 10 for Teays Valley (8-10).
For Ohio Valley, Madison Crank had 10 points.
