Defending Class A state champion Charleston Catholic secured the No. 3 seed and will face Kanawha Valley rival and No. 6 seeded Buffalo in the quarterfinal round of the boys state basketball tournament at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday.
This will be the fourth meeting between the teams, with Catholic (21-3) winning the first three. The most recent meeting was March 1 when the Irish claimed a 55-44 victory in the Class A Region 4 Section 2 tournament.
In Class AAA, South Charleston earned the No. 3 seed and will face No. 6 Morgantown at 7:15 p.m. Thursday.
Also in Class A, Tug Valley earned the No. 1 seed and will face No. 8 Notre Dame at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday; No. 2 seed Magnolia faces No. 7 Wheeling Central at 1 p.m. Wednesday and No. 4 Tucker County faces No. 5 Greater Beckley Christian at 9 p.m. Wednesday.
Also in Class AAA, Hurricane was given the No. 7 seed and will face No. 2 Beckley at 11:15 a.m. Wednesday.
No. 1 Martinsburg faces No. 8 Huntington at 7:15 p.m. Wednesday and No. 4 Washington faces No. 5 Parkersburg South at 11:15 a.m. Thursday.
The Class AA field, which has regional co-finals being contested tonight, won't be released until late tonight or early Saturday.
