High school baseball: Rogoszewski strikes out 10 as Hurricane shuts out Ripley

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Sophomore right-hander J.T. Rogoszewski struck out 10 and scattered four hits to lead the Hurricane baseball team to a 10-0 win over Ripley on Tuesday.

Connor Adams led the Redskins (2-1) with three hits, including a double, triple and four RBI, while Riley Metz had a pair of singles.

For Ripley (1-1), Chris Jordan had a double.

Herbert Hoover 13, Winfield 9 - The Huskies (1-0) used an eight-run fifth inning to pull past the host Generals (2-1).

Hoover was led by Corey Bird's three hits, while Ryan Shamblin, Austin Thomas and Scooter Farmer had two hits apiece. Shamblin had three RBI, while Farmer added two.

For Winfield (2-1), Mason Dillon had three hits, while John Bellomy and Jordan Clark contributed two hits apiece.

Poca 3, Wayne 1 - Jake Payne, Donte Barnette and Ryan Leighton combined to allow no hits as the Dots (1-0) won on the road.

Poca's Cam Cottrill - the Daily Mail's Kanawha Valley Freshman of the Year in 2011 - went 2-for-3 and drove in three runs, while Noah Frampton - the 2012 Freshman of the Year - added a pair of hits.
