Winfield (1-2) got contributions from its entire lineup in the win.
Pitcher Abbie Short and shortstop Ally Funk ripped doubles, both into left-center field, contributing to the win. Katie Ferrell joined their extra-base hit parade in the sixth inning, hitting a triple to right and later scored on Funk's double.
Riverside Coach Mike Taylor pulled starter Kaylee Wolfe in favor of ace Sara Winter, but could not stop the sixth-inning rally.
"We just did not come ready to play today," Taylor said. "(Winfield) came ready, and they out-played us. There is no excuse for it."
Although Taylor was dissatisfied with the outcome, Riverside's first two at-bats looked promising. Cassady Schmidt, Destini Diegert, and Felicia Burton were top of the lineup and each managed to reach base in the first. Only one scored, but it set the tone for a second-inning rally.
Veteran Destinae Schmidt, amidst seeing first and second base occupied knew she had to pull through for her team. With a double in the second inning, she had 2 RBI and was 2-for-3.
Both starting pitchers struggled in the game, with Scott striking out three and giving up 10 hits.
