Prep baseball roundup: Hoyer, Wilcox lead Catholic past Williamstown
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Andy Hoyer and Rocco Wilcox combined to strike out 14 batters and scatter four hits in pitching Charleston Catholic to a 4-2 win over Williamstown in high school baseball play Tuesday.
Wilcox also had two doubles and scored three runs for the Irish (8-4), while Nelson McKown finished with two hits and two RBI.
For Williamstown (8-4), Avery Goff had two RBI.
Herbert Hoover 17, Nicholas County 5 - The Huskies (12-0) scored in every inning to post the easy road win.
Austin Thomas smacked a three-run homer for Hoover, while Tristan Fields smacked a solo shot. Scooter Farmer added two hits, including a double and and drove in three runs for the Huskies.
For Nicholas County (4-4), Tyler Sagraves had three hits, while Jared Price and Ethan Amick added two hits apiece.
Capital 11, George Washington 10 - Justin Palmer had two hits and three RBI to lead the Cougars (4-7).
Caleb Kinder had three hits and two RBI for Capital, while Anthony Gavin finished with two hits and two RBI.
For GW (8-5), John Thomas had three hits, while Grant Wooten and Tanner Sorrells had two hits apiece.
South Charleston 12, Ripley 6 - Antonio Brown collected three hits, including a double and three RBI to lead the Black Eagles (7-5) on the road.
Austin Santrock also had three hits for SC, while Jerod Jobst, Jonathan Pauley and Trevor Sampson had two hits apiece.
Pauley also knocked in three runs, while tossing 4 2/3 innings of four-hit baseball to pick up the win.
For Ripley, Trevor Tucker had a double and two RBI, while Jared Bumpus had an RBI.
Capital 7, Sissonville 6 - The Cougars improved to 5-7 with the home win.
Kavin Kincaid had two RBI for Capital, while Caleb Kinder plated a single run.
For Sissonville, Jacob Fisher, Zach Null and Eli Mooney each had two hits.
