CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Hurricane's Connor Adams provided the big offensive blow and pitcher Riley Metz made it stand up as the Redskins posted a 5-1 win at Nitro in high school baseball action Wednesday night.
Adams smacked a three-run, first-inning homer off of Nitro's Kip Brewer to highlight a four-run inning for Hurricane (11-2).
Metz took over from there, limiting the Wildcats (6-4) to just four singles, while striking out 10 in tossing the complete game.
For Nitro, Ryan McDonough and Dylan Slack each finished 2-for-2.
Herbert Hoover 12, Clay County 0 - Scooter Farmer had two hits, including a double and four RBI to lead the Huskies (13-0) on the road.
Sean Craze and Shaun Dotson added three hits apiece for Hoover, while Corey Bird had two hits and two RBI for Hoover. Craze also knocked in three runs.
Junior right-hander Cody Bowen (3-0) allowed just two singles in picking up the win.
Charleston Catholic 17, Sissonville 5 - The Irish pounded out 16 hits en route to the easy road win.
Rocco Wilcox had three hits and five RBI for Catholic (9-4), while Nelson McKown and Thad Jameson added three hits apiece. Drew Cable chipped in with two hits and two RBI.
For Sissonville (6-11), Zach Null and Dominic Walker had two hits apiece.
South Charleston 7, Oak Hill 3 - Jerod Jobst had two hits and two RBI as the Black Eagles (8-5) earned the home win.
Antonio Brown, Jonathan Pauley and Jared Hill knocked in a run apiece for South Charleston, while Jon Cline collected a triple.
For Oak Hill (4-7), Chris Hysell had three hits, while Wes Stowers and Bubba Smith finished with two hits apiece.
