Prep roundup: Breckenridge, Valley top Fayetteville
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Raeshawn Breckenridge had two doubles and two RBI and Arik McGinnis and Mark Hess added two hits apiece to lead the Valley baseball team to a 10-0 win over Fayetteville (8-8) on Thursday night.
McGinnis pitched the five-inning shutout, striking out 12 with four walks for the Greyhounds (10-4).
In other baseball action:
Nitro 9, Spring Valley 6 - Dylan Slack, Eric Keller and Jacob Williams had two hits apiece and the Wildcats (7-4) took advantage of nine errors by the Timberwolves (6-5) to win on the road.
Keller knocked in two runs for Nitro, which scored three fifth-inning runs with the help of two of the hosts errors.
Beckley 5, South Charleston 2 - Josh Rakes gave up two runs on four hits as the Flying Eagles won on the road.
Austin Santrock was 2-for-3 and an RBI in the loss for South Charleston (8-6).
Hunter Greco went 3-for-3 with a double and three RBI for Beckley.
In softball action:
Scott 2, Logan 0 - Chasity Ball doubled in runs in the first and fifth innings and Jennifer Miller made them hold up as the Skyhawks won on the road.
Miller (8-0) had five strikeouts and one walk for Scott (11-4).
Summer Collins and Chastidy Wiley each had two hits for the Wildcats (6-8).
Riverside 10, Greenbrier East 0 - Hannah Coleman was 3-for-3 with four RBI as the Warriors rolled at home.
Kaylee Wolfe pitched the shut out giving up two hits in four innings for Riverside (10-8).
Cathnolic 13-16, Van 5-1 - Brianna Ross had four hits and seven RBI and Emma Sovick had three hits and seven RBI in the doubleheader road sweep for the Irish (9-5).
Allie Persily picked up the win in the second game and added a double and two RBI.
