Prep soccer roundup: GW boys blank Nitro
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- After a scoreless first half, GW scored five goals in the second half from five different players in earning a 5-0 win over Nitro in boys high school soccer action Thursday night.
Noah Miller, Graham Plantz, Peter Nelson, Drew Davis, and Alex Davis all had goals for the Patriots, who remained unbeaten at 5-0. Chris Klocke made 13 saves for Nitro (2-3).
Hurricane 8, Lincoln County 0 - Hurricane moves to 3-1-1 on the season with the win. Hurricane receivedthree goals each from Guillermo Ugarte and Loran Meadows. Also scoring forthe Redskins were Chris Smith and Conner Fowler. Tim Hayslett recorded theshutout for Hurricane.
Sissonville 9, Ravenswood 0 - Josh Rawson scored two goals for a Sissonville squad that had seven different players score in a shutout victory on the road. Tyler Harmon stopped 14 shots for Ravenswood and JR Strickland stopped 9 for the Indians.
Winfield 5, Riverside 0 - Joey Richmond lead Winfield with goals for the win at home. Hunter Sheldon, Noah Laliberty, and Ronnie Beale each scored a goal for the Generals in the route. Austin Ballengee and Evan Strickland combined for the shutout.
Cross Lanes Christian 10, Grace Christian 0 - Kyle Davis and Tyler Corbin each had a hat trick for Cross Lanes Christian (3-0) in the easy road win.
South Charleston 5, Capital 2 - The Black Eagles scored four goals in the first half, and it was more than enough in the home win at Oakes Field.
Jonah Cosby scored two goals for SC (4-1) while Kwesi Wilkerson, Chris Brown, and Derek Nelson all scored as well. Logan Garrison and Zach Koontz scored goals for Capital (3-2).

Charleston Catholic 12, Sherman 0 - Twelve different Charleston Catholic players scored in an easy victory on the road. Sherman's Bassham stopped seven shots on goal in the loss.
Winfield 10, Riverside 1 - Mackenzie Pritt scored three goals for the Generals as the won easily on the road. Seven other Winfield players scored racking up ten goals. Ashley Hancock scored the lone goal for the Warriors in the loss. Braiden Maddox stopped one shot for Winfield and Lauren Sparks stopped two for Riverside.
George Washington 2, Nitro 0 - After a scoreless first half, the Patriots (4-1) were able to net a pair of second half goals to earn the home win at Schoenbaum Stadium.
Hannah Ellis scored the first goal of the game in the 60th minute, and 10 minutes later, Kate Eddy put a header into the Nitro (1-3) goal off a corner from Rachel Mears. Olivia Miller had the shutout for GW.
Shady Spring 1, Herbert Hoover 0 - Keegan Mueller scored the lone goal in the second half for Shady Spring in the defensive victory at home. Jonathan Beckett had three saves for Shady Spring and Brett Strickland stopped 19 shots for Hoover.
