WVU's Williams, Asselin win academic honors
PROVIDENCE, R.I. - West Virginia's Reed Williams (football) and Marie-Louise Asselin (women's outdoor track and field) were among 24 Big East Conference athletes honored Wednesday with the league's Scholar-Athlete Sport Excellence Awards.
The awards are given to only one athlete in each Big East sport and are based on academic credentials, athletic accolades or performances and volunteer service to the community.
The two awards add to WVU's recent success in getting various top academic honors in the Big East.
Since 2004, major Big East academic individual awards for the Mountaineers have been won by Garin Justice, Jay Henry and Williams (football), Alex Ruoff, Joe Herber and Ted Talkington (men's basketball), Liz Repella (women's basketball) and Asselin (women's outdoor track).
