LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Details of Dan Jennings' abrupt exit from the West Virginia University men's basketball team are beginning to surface.
Jennings, who had started three consecutive games, didn't start Sunday against South Florida and didn't play in the first half. He didn't join the team when it went to the court for the second half of the 56-46 win.
Jennings left a farewell message on one of the team's dry-erase boards and met with assistant coach Larry Harrison later in the day. He's still in Morgantown and Coach Bob Huggins said before Wednesday's game against Louisville he has met with Jennings since the incident.
WVU hasn't made an official statement regarding Jennings, but he wasn't included in Wednesday's game notes and roster. His profile has been removed from the school's website.
"You can only let a guy do the same thing so many times," Huggins said.
Jennings' departure and the suspension of leading scorer Casey Mitchell left the Mountaineers with eight healthy scholarship players. Sources told the Charleston Daily Mail that Jennings is exploring a transfer and is considering a move to a lower level, but for now is interested in staying at the Division I level.
The 6-foot-8, 260-pound Jennings is from Staten Island, N.Y., and made his name in the summer AAU circuit, but also played at Oak Hill (Va.) Academy and gained more attention there. He was offered a scholarship by many Big East schools.

THE MOUNTAINEERS debuted their Nike Hyper Elite uniforms Wednesday. The apparel company includes schools in certain classifications based on performance. Nike gave WVU three sets - gold, blue and white - for reaching "Elite" status with last year's Final Four run.
"Once you reach a certain status, Nike starts to provide you with certain styles of uniforms," said WVU's deputy athletic director, Mike Parsons. "Our success last year and the relationship Coach Huggins has had with Nike through the years open a lot of doors for us."
The back of the jerseys feature a scene inside the Coliseum with the Mountaineer statue standing in the middle and the jerseys of Hot Rod Hundley and Jerry West hanging from the rafters. The shorts are lightweight and similar to swim trunks. They feature a secondary color flare on a mesh panel on each thigh.
The uniforms, which are now available for purchase, could have been unveiled earlier. The premier was delayed slightly when Jonnie West agreed to return to the team in the preseason and WVU had to add West's uniforms to the order.

HOW TIGHT is the Big East race? With the win and Villanova's loss at Providence, Louisville jumped from a tie for fourth place into a tie for second place. With the loss, WVU fell from fourth to seventh entering Saturday's 8 p.m. game at Cincinnati, which was 17-3 and 4-3 in the conference before Wednesday's late game at home against Rutgers (12-7, 3-4).
The top four seeds receive a two-round bye in the conference tournament. The next four seeds receive a one-round bye.
