MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -- There are two certainties attached to the chance West Virginia will be invited to the NCAA Tournament on Sunday evening.
"We don't know what's going to happen," WVU forward Deniz Kilicli said. "We're not in a good position now."
Even with their late-season slide, the Mountaineers had managed to keep their names out of bubble talk. That ended Wednesday.
An overtime loss to Connecticut in the second round of the Big East Conference tournament, coupled with the happenings throughout other conference tournaments, pulled WVU into the conversation about who's getting left out of the field of 68 teams.

The Mountaineers are watching teams with similar postseason potential take their shots at impressing the selection committee. WVU's dreaded reality is that its work is done and not to the Mountaineers' satisfaction.
WVU lost five games it led by 10 or more points and eight games that were decided by seven or fewer points.
"Me personally, 9-9 (regular-season record) in the Big East goes to the tournament," Kilicli said. "I don't think we're in a bad position with the RPI and strength of schedule. I think we should be able to get in, but you never know."
WVU finished the season 19-13 and 9-10 in games against Big East teams - and the RPI says the Big East is the second-best conference in the country. Perhaps 10 Big East teams could get into the tournament, but WVU's conference RPI is No. 59, which is lower than its overall RPI.
That number dropped to No. 51 Wednesday. The strength of schedule is No. 14.
Coach Bob Huggins has talked consistently about the selection committee's supposed criteria and leans on who the Mountaineers have played and where those games occurred.
"We've played more games against the top-100 people than anybody in the country," he said. "They say play a tough schedule. We have. We've played more games against top-50 teams."
