CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The Mountaineer Sports Network from IMG now has its Charleston affiliate.
Officials with IMG College and LM Communications announced 100.9 The Mix, WMXE-FM, will air WVU sports broadcasts on the new IMG Audio-produced network.
"I've always been a huge Mountaineers fan, and as radio station owner/operator for 32 years in Charleston, I'm absolutely thrilled to bring WVU sports to Mountaineer Nation over our signal," LM Communications owner Lynn Martin said.
The station will air both WVU football and men's basketball games and weekly coach's shows. It will also air women's basketball and baseball games, as well as a daily "Mountaineer Minute" report.
"Broadcasting Mountaineer sports on our station from the state capital is a lifelong dream come true," Martin said.
Winston-Salem, N.C.-based IMG, which won a bid for WVU's sports multimedia rights last month, has now signed 36 radio affiliates for its sports network.
While the company has been actively recruiting stations for weeks, it remained unclear which station would broadcast WVU sports in the Charleston market.
Games were formerly aired on West Virginia Radio Corporation's owned and operated stations in Charleston, including WCHS-AM. West Virginia Radio, owned by John Raese, is currently suing WVU and IMG over the way the university handled its multimedia rights bidding process over the last year.
"We are very happy to welcome Lynn Martin and WXME-FM in Charleston to the Mountaineer Sports Network," IMG vice president Chris Ferris said.
"Lynn has a long history and deep roots in the very important Charleston market, the state's capital and largest city," Ferris said. "WXME's strong signal will provide essential coverage for our growing network to the Kanawha Valley, including Charleston and the outlying areas."
