THE FOUR semifinal coaches have a composite playoff record of 98-38.
Bluefield Coach Fred Simon is 41-11 in his career, a winning percentage of .788. The Beavers have won four state championships during his tenure, and have finished as the runner-up five other times.
Harmon is 33-11 (.750), with three titles and three runner-up finishes. Carey is 17-13 (.567) and coached Bridgeport to the 2000 title win over Wayne. The Indians finished as runner-up to Poca in 2001, and reached the Class AAA semifinals twice under Carey before he stepped down to complete rehabilitation after a spinal aneurysm in 2009.
Bridgeport's Josh Nicewarner, a former player under Carey and later a Bridgeport assistant, is 7-3 in postseason play in four seasons.
WAYNE ALL-STATE quarterback Grant Ferguson has not played since the Pioneers' regular-season finale at Bluefield. Harmon said he is still unsure if the junior will suit up against the Eagles on Friday night.
"He's a big question mark. With those type of injuries, especially with a skill-position guy and a leg, it's a lot of 'maybe' and 'I hope so,'" Harmon said. "It's just a wait-and-see how we practice this week.
"You don't want to push it too far in practice because you don't want to risk injury again," he said.
Ferguson, who has 595 rushing yards and has completed 62-of-124 passes for 1,090 yards, 15 touchdowns and three interceptions, suffered a high ankle sprain at Bluefield in Week 11.
