June 06--CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Former University of Dayton point guard Juwan Staten is transferring to West Virginia. A team source confirmed Sunday what Staten, a 6-foot, 180-pound pound freshman from Dayton, Ohio, announced on his Twitter page the day before.
"After this long wait I have finally decided where I will finish out my collegiate basketball career ... West Virginia University!" he wrote.
Staten averaged 8.5 points and an Atlantic 10-best 5.4 assists per game.
He played 29.1 minutes per game and made the conference's all-rookie team, but announced in March his plans to leave because he didn't entirely trust his development in the hands of Coach Brian Gregory.
Gregory later took the Georgia Tech job and Staten's initial interest in Penn State faded when Ed DeChellis took the Navy job late last month.
Staten made only 4 of his 26 3-point attempts and shot 38.8 percent from the floor and 60.4 from the free-throw line in 35 games and 34 starts for Dayton.
