July 12--Three Fairmont men are facing burglary-related charges in Marion County and Pennsylvania.
Richard VanPelt, 38, was arrested Thursday and also charged with bringing stolen property into the state. His bond was set at $75,000.
James Shriver, 37, was arrested Friday, along with his father, and charged with bringing stolen property into the state. Otto Shriver, 59, was charged with transferring and receiving stolen property. Bond for both men was set at $5,000.
Marion County Sheriff Joe Carpenter said VanPelt was stopped for a traffic violation on Cleveland Avenue in Fairmont, and a detective searched his vehicle after he spotted a laptop computer, flat-screen TV and other items in his backseat.
According to a criminal complaint, the items were valued at about $3,000 and reported stolen during a Pennsylvania burglary Thursday. The victims came to Marion County and identified the property.
VanPelt confessed to the burglary and larceny in Pennsylvania after he was read his Miranda rights. He told police that James Shriver also took part in the burglary and transported stolen property to West Virginia.
