May 12--Two South Charleston doctors are constructing a multi-million-dollar medical office building within a stone's throw of Thomas Memorial Hospital.
The Riverview Medical Plaza is under construction at 4610 Kanawha Ave. S.W., across MacCorkle Avenue from Thomas Memorial and behind Schlotsky's Deli.
DGR Limited Liability Co. is owner of the project. Drs. Elie Gharib, Scott Duffy and Mitchill Rashid organized DGR in 2009 to purchase and invest in real estate, according to papers filed with Secretary of State Natalie Tennant.
All three doctors practice at the West Virginia Heart & Vascular Institute's offices, which are in Thomas Hospital's office pavilion at 4607 MacCorkle Ave. S.W. Duffy remains with the institute but is no longer involved in the real estate project, said Lesa Adkins, the institute's manager.
The four-story office building will have 10,000 square feet of space on each floor. Adkins said the West Virginia Heart & Vascular Institute will occupy the entire second floor. The other floors are available for lease to doctors or medical-related businesses.
The institute currently has 22 employees and occupies about 3,000 square feet of space. "We are on top of each other now," Adkins said. "That's why we're moving  we actually need more space." The institute will probably hire 10 more people after the move, she said.
