Prep roundup: Buffalo rolls to doubleheader softball sweep

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Pitching was nearly perfect for the Buffalo High softball team on Wednesday evening as the Bison rolled to a 10-0, 5-0 doubleheader home sweep over Wirt County.

Senior pitcher Chelsey Parkins (5-3) tossed a perfect game, with six strikeouts in leading the Bison (12-5) to the game one win.

Buffalo, ranked second in the Daily Mail softball poll, was led at the plate by Ali Burdette, Courtney Allen, Katie Higginbotham and Chase Christy, who had two hits apiece.

In the nightcap, Burdette was two outs away from the team’s second no-hitter of the day before a one-out, bloop single spoiled the feat.

Burdette (6-2) finished with 16 strikeouts, while issuing two walks.

Higginbotham and Allen had three hits apiece for Buffalo, while Olivia Dunn, Taylor Briscoe and Noell Dingess each added two hits.

Hurricane 12, Winfield 2 — Courtney Rogers tossed a complete-game three hitter and added three hits, including a homer and six RBI as the Class AAA No. 1 Redskins won on the road.

Amber Null added two RBI for Hurricane (21-1), while Madi Casto and Emily Davis had two hits apiece.

For Winfield (7-16), Kenna Markham had two hits, including a homer, while Natalie Miscofsky had an RBI.

Herbert Hoover 4, Lincoln County 1 — Allison Rager picked up the win for the Class AA No. 3 Huskies (18-4), while adding a homer at the plate.

Ashleigh Tignor also homered for Hoover, while Katie Angle added two hits and two RBI.

For Class AAA No. 5 Lincoln County (17-8), Brooke West had two hits, including a double.

Wayne 3, Sissonville 2 — Jessie Rowe pitched a complete game, allowing two runs on three hits as the Pioneers won at home. Kasey Endicott went 2 for 2 with two RBI for Wayne.

For Sissonville, Taylor Legg had an RBI.

In Wednesday’s baseball action:

South Charleston 10, Oak Hill 7 — The Black Eagles plated five runs in the bottom of the sixth to pull out the come-from-behind home win.

Antonio Brown and Jared Hill led SC with two hits apiece, while Trevor Sampson added three RBI. Isaiah Moss contributed two RBI for the Black Eagles.

For Oak Hill, Chris Hysell and Aaron Tincher had two RBI each.

Buffalo 12, Wirt County 1 — Beau Whittington pitched five innings, allowing just three hits in leading the Bison (8-8) at home.

Nick Gunter went 2 for 2 with a triple and two RBI for Buffalo, while Laythen Good added a triple and two RBI. Connor Fields had two hits for the Bison.

Wirt County, which committed five errors, dropped to 2-17.
