Power splits doubleheader with Kannapolis

By

FROM STAFF REPORTS

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. — The West Virginia Power fell in its first game Tuesday, but rallied in the second to split a doubleheader with the Kannapolis Intimidators. West Virginia lost the first, 1-0, and won the second, 5-2.

Carl Thromore’s two-out single in the bottom of the seventh brought home Danny Hayes, broke a scoreless tie and gave the Kannapolis Intimidators a Game 1 win. Power starter Buddy Borden had a two-hit shutout through six when West Virginia put Clario Perez (1-1) on the mound in the seventh. He gave up a single to Hayes, who moved to second on a Jacob Morris sacrifice bunt and moved to third on a Trey Michalczewski groundout. That led to Thromore’s game-winning line drive to center.

In Game 2, West Virginia (8-16) pounded out 11 hits, including four extra-base hits, for the win. Right fielder Danny Collins hit a double and atriple with two RBI.
