Roundup: Buffalo sweeps twinbill from Parkersburg South

Ali Burdette and Chelsey Parkins pitched a pair of shutouts with a combined 15 strikeouts and three walks to lead Buffalo (17-5) to pair of home wins Tuesday against Parkersburg South.

The junior Burdette also went 2-for-2 with a home run as the Bison cruised in a shutout in the first game of the evening. In the nightcap, Olivia Dunn, Katie Higginbotham and Courtney Allen hit consecutive doubles after Chelsey Parkins reached base in the fourth inning to sweep the doubleheader.

Riverside 10, George Washington 5 — Riverside (11-11) was paced by a triple, two RBI and two runs scored by Cassady Schmidt in a senior night win over George Washington.

Harley Justice also collected a pair of doubles and two RBI, while Destinae Schmidt added two runs scored in the Warriors’ win.

Jessi Thevenin went 2 for 4 with an RBI, while Amber Biel had an inside-the-park home run in the Patriots’ loss.

In baseball action:

Hurricane 5, Winfield 1 — The two-run home run and three RBI from junior Trey Dawson was more than enough as Hurricane (15-4) won their five straight at Winfield.

Alex Dunham also hit a homer as part of a 2-for-4 day, while Jon Hensley chipped in with a double in the Redskins’ win. Brandon Wright and Tate Hancock each hit a double in the loss for the Generals (7-13).

Nitro 15, Sissonville 3 — Dylan Slack collected four RBI, while Ryan McDonough had a double, home run and three RBI in a road win for Nitro (18-5).

The Indians also had a home run and two RBI each from sophomores Matt Harrison and Jacob Williams. Zach Boggess led Sissonville (14-10) with a double and two RBI from in the loss.

St. Albans 7, Riverside 3 — St Albans’ Joseph Call scattered eight hits and six strikeouts in a complete game win on the road against Riverside.

Josh Burks led the way on offense for the Red Dragons with a home run and four RBI. Bobby Grishaber also added a triple and RBI in the win. Pitcher Cameron Norris’ two RBI wasn’t enough to avoid the loss for Riverside (12-7).
