MARSHALL BASEBALL: Old Dominion sweeps Thundering Herd
CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The Marshall baseball team suffered its third Conference USA sweep of the season, as the Thundering Herd dropped a doubleheader Sunday at Appalachian Power Park to Old Dominion. The Herd lost first game, 9-1, and the second, 8-3.
In the first game, the Monarchs (31-20, 17-13 C-USA) sprinted in front with a nine-run, eight-hit first inning. Starter Michael Taylor could record just one out, allowing six runs on five hits. Ryan Hopkins relieved him and could get just one out himself, giving up three runs, two earned, on three hits.
In the second game, the Monarchs got out to another quick lead on the Herd (20-28, 10-16 C-USA), scoring three in the first and four in the third. Herd starter Chase Boster gave up five runs on seven hits before being pulled in the third. Marshall plays its final conference series of the season beginning Thursday at Middle Tennessee.
