MARSHALL BASKETBALL: Canty commits to transfer to South Florida
CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Kareem Canty, an all-Conference USA third-team point guard last season for Marshall, has committed to transfer to the University of South Florida, according to several media reports on Sunday.
Canty had announced on his Twitter feed in March that he would transfer following former Thundering Herd coach Tom Herrion’s resignation. Marshall named Dan D’Antoni its new head basketball coach in April. Canty visited and originally committed to transfer to Auburn late on April 19, then rescinded that commitment April 20, saying he wanted to take the rest of his visits. He visited USF the weekend of May 2-4 and Penn State this past weekend.
Canty averaged 16.3 points and 5.5 assists as a Marshall freshman. On top of his third-team all-conference selection, he also was named to the C-USA all-freshman team.
