Power pitchers shut down Shorebirds in 4-1 win
CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Buddy Borden struck out five over five innings Tuesday as the West Virginia Power defeated the Delmarva Shorebirds, 4-1, at Appalachian Power Park for its second win in the last three games.
Borden (1-2) gave up five hits and allowed one earned run while walking two for his first win of the season. That Delmarva run came in the first inning, when an Austin Wynns single scored Josh Hart. Then Borden and relievers Brett McKinney and Isaac Sanchez held Delmarva scoreless the rest of the way.
The Power (15-30) scored two in the fourth on a Wyatt Mathisen RBI double and a Francisco Diaz RBI sacrifice fly. West Virginia added two in the seventh on a Jacoby Jones RBI double and a Harold Ramirez RBI sacrifice fly.
The Power next plays Thursday when it hosts Lakewood at 7:05 p.m.
