CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- More than 25 companies are expected to participate in a job fair Thursday at the Charleston Civic Center.
The Charleston Newspapers Job Fair will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Upper Lobby. Participants are encouraged to dress professionally and must come prepared with a resume, list of references and any documents necessary to apply for employment.
Mining, sales, medical, retail positions, drivers and legal secretaries are just some of the employment opportunities available. A wide range of job opportunities will be available, from part-time and seasonal employment to full-time jobs with local companies.
Participating companies include Casci, PIA Trucking, Patton Building Services, Kanawha Valley Community and Technical College, FedEX, TRG Customer Solutions, Essar Minerals, Genesis, Boone Nursing and Rehab, Laurel Nursing and Rehab, NGK Spark Plugs, Ashley Furniture, Independence Coal, Macy's, Mildred-Mitchell Bateman Hospital, Western Coal, Combined Insurance, State Farm, Select Specialty, Brickstreet, Wendy's, Charleston Job Corps, Mountain State School of Massage, Toys R Us, and Flaherty, Sensabaugh and Bonasso Law Firm.
Potential applicants can visit www.gazettemailjobs.com for a complete list of participating companies.
Marsha Thomas, Charleston Newspapers employment advertising manager, said one advantage of a job fair is the convenience of many potential employers in one place, as well as the fast-paced employment process.
By allowing on-the-spot interviews, the employment search process is abbreviated for local job seekers.
"Some of our companies will be interviewing and hiring on the spot, so you are able to get the entire process done here," Thomas said.
AARP-WV will also be in attendance, offering advice to help those 40 and older maximize their potential in the midst of the job search process.
Thomas thinks an improvement in West Virginia's economical status is reflected in the number of participants in this fall's job fair.
"Last year, 18 companies participated, and now we have 27. I see an increase in hiring in this area, and companies are less cautious about hiring new employees."
