Fujiko Signs, a practitioner and teacher of Christian Science healing, will present a free lecture in Charleston entitled "Listening to Angels, the Message of Love and Healing."
The event is set for 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Clay Center's Walker Theater.
The session will be an introductory talk on Christian Science healing.
Signs said her presentation would appeal to people of all walks of life who are "seekers and thinkers." She will share ideas based on the teachings of Jesus Christ from the Bible, and as explained in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy.
Signs' talk will go beyond the vision that many have of angels as flying beings. Angels may appear in the form of intuition, what may be called a sixth sense, or something being at the right place at just the proper time, she said.
"People have disputed and talked about it for centuries," she said. "It's possible that everyone, regardless of faith, can have these messages."
It's a matter of having a connection with a divine being, she said.
"It's our nature to communicate," she said. "It's God's nature to communicate with us. I think children hear this better with no sense of fear or cynicism."
Signs said she once held several jobs and was under a great deal of stress. She worked as a market research consultant for computer manufacturing companies and taught Japanese and literature at community colleges and universities across the United States.
She became ill in her mid 30s and sought help through various treatments.
"I had heart problems and doctors said I would never be healed," she said.
She began to study Christian Science and found it to be logical. After practicing the teachings, she said she was healed and has since witnessed the healings of others.
