"There's a FROG jam, which is fig, red raspberry, orange and ginger," he said. "That's very Southern. We also have Hoppin' FROG - that has jalapeno in it."
Pickled beets and beet-pickled eggs made the list, although Hathaway said you won't catch him eating the latter.
"I do like pickled beets," he said.
Hathaway will readily offer samples of products customers might find intriguing but unfamiliar, such as candied jalapenos, red pepper relish and garlicky pickled mushrooms.
"It's a good mutual relationship," Hathaway said of his partnership with the Amish company. "We picked them because they use plain, simple ingredients. You recognize everything you read on the back of the jar. They use pure cane sugar in their jams."
Hathaway made a visit to Ohio to see how the company operated and was impressed.
"The cleanliness of the facility - it was impeccable," he said. "That's important, if your name's going to be on something."
So far, customers have been receptive to the new line.
"During Christmas, we shipped jelly clear to California," he said. "We had customers from California and they wanted to use them as Christmas gifts."
Hathaway has been gratified by the support Charleston customers have shown him.
"I give credit to the customer. They'll tell you which direction to go," he said. "Some of them are in here every couple of days. I had a sales rep from out of town in here and he said, 'I cannot believe this. You're like an old-time store. You know your customers.'"
