CHARLESTON, W.Va. - South Charleston Memorial Ice Arena has a brand new Zamboni, the machine used to groom the ice.
The new machine cost about $115,000. The Kanawha County Commission allocated $50,000, and three area businesses contributed another $11,000.
South Charleston Mayor Frank Mullens said the new machine was purchased out of safety concerns. The old machine produced carbon monoxide, and although no problems had ever been reported at South Charleston's rink, the fumes have sickened people at ice rinks elsewhere.
