CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Animals arriving in Charleston for the annual Ringling Bros. And Barnum & Bailey circus will walk from the train to the Civic Center about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
The animals will be unloaded from the train at the corner of Broad and Smith streets near the Capitol Market. The best place for viewing is along the walk route to the Civic Center.
Circus officials will do their best to keep the information updated, as times and travel routes are subject to change.
The circus opens Wednesday for 10 shows through the weekend.
On Wednesday, another popular public event is scheduled. The Elephant Brunch hosted by Charleston Town Center and the circus starts at 11:30 a.m. on Clendenin Street between the mall and the Civic Center.
Festivities will include a celebrity competition between Charleston Mayor Danny Jones and performers from the show. Ringmaster Johnathan Lee Iverson will oversee the contest of hilarious hoops with a "surprise" secret player no one expects and a big ticket presentation to benefit one lucky local charity.Following the game, spectators are invited to stay and watch the pachyderms as they enjoy a post-game spread of fruits, veggies and bread.
