Wednesday event to benefit W.Va. food banks
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Two utilities are teaming up with the Kanawha County Commission to keep food pantry shelves stocked.
The drive is called "Power up the Pantry" and two collections are planned this week.
Appalachian Power and West Virginia American Water began the donation drive to benefit Mountain Mission last year after severe weather events caused critical shortages at food banks. They decided to make it an annual event.
Donations of food or cash can be dropped off from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday with volunteers stationed at the Mountain Mission truck in front of the county courthouse. That evening, donations will be collected at Appalachian Power Park.
A portion of ticket sales from the Thursday game between the Power and the Hagerstown Suns will also be donated to the cause.
