South Hills Market and Cafe, 1010 Bridge Road, is participating in the James Beard Foundation's Taste America Local Dish Challenge, which explores America's culinary diversity, through Oct. 31.
Chef Richard Arbaugh has chosen to feature Honey Lacquered Chicken with Hand Foraged Chanterelle Puree and Fricassee of Kanawha County Vegetables.
"As a James Beard Foundation member, I have composed a dish to showcase the best of our local food scene in Charleston . . . We are the only West Virginia restaurant participating in this national event, and if we win the challenge, $10,000 will be donated to Manna Meal on behalf of the James Beard Foundation," said Richard Arbaugh, owner and chef of the South Hills Market and Cafe.
South Hills Market and Cafe will donate $1 from each dish sold to the JBF Taste America Education Drive, which supports educational programs on topics surrounding our country's food system.
Diners can support the JBF Taste America Local Dish Challenge by following these steps: Visit the cafe between Sept. 1 and Oct. 31, complete the list at jbftasteamerica.org/local-dish; order the Taste America Local Dish, take a photo of the dish and post the photo to Instagram with #JBFTasteamerica and the hashtag of your city (#charlestonWV).
