On a more local level, the Charleston Convention and Visitors Bureau has announced the finalists for its first-ever Tourism People's Choice Awards - with several food-related nominees on the list.
From more than 500 nominations received in multiple categories, the bureau narrowed the list to four finalists in each. Now, you can help pick the winners, which will be announced May 13 during National Tourism Week.
The top four nominees in food-related categories are:
I am reeling (shocked!) that Noah's Eclectic Bistro didn't make the best restaurant list - further proof that more people need to discover Charleston's best-kept culinary secret.
In addition to recognizing "People's Choice Award" winners, the bureau's event also will include a Food Network's "Chopped"-style competition among local chefs, during which tourism industry representatives and guests will choose the best dish.
