Let's hear it for the home boy!
After more than 32,000 votes were cast nationwide, Cross Lanes chef Matthew Grover beat out more than 1,000 entries to be one of only eight selected to advance to the final round of the "US Foods Next Top Product Contest."
Grover, from Mardi Gras Resort and Casino in Cross Lanes, will now prepare his Roasted Corn Sauce in a head-to-head battle against seven others at the World Food Championships in Las Vegas on Nov. 8.
He says he created this particular recipe because he wanted to make a sauce for roasted pork loin that would not be sweet or hot. He used corn because he considers it an under-used vegetable, and he knew he could turn it into something memorable. It's versatile, too, since it can be used with pork chops, fried green tomatoes, as a dipping sauce or even to finish polenta before serving.
While in Vegas, Grover will not only be vying for $5,000 in cash and a $15,000 kitchen makeover but also for the chance to have his recipe turned into a nationally distributed product.
