Neediest Cases Make a Donation
Both parents in this household work full time to support their two young children.
But at minimum wage, that amounts to just $600 a week before taxes. They also get $122 in food stamp assistance each month.
The money goes fast.
"They live a good little jaunt outside city limits," said the caseworker who knows the family, and gas and car maintenance can add up.
The caseworker is impressed that these parents do the best they can with what they have.
The couple at one point had to apply for temporary assistance but worked hard to secure employment, which can be hard to come by in their rural county.
The mom is working slowly toward a certificate that will improve her earnings potential.
"The kids are doing great. They are very hands-on parents who work with their children," the caseworker said.
The parents and their 3- and 5-year-old children live in their own home, but it really needs some repairs. As winter approaches, some work could make the home more energy-efficient and warm.
