This husband and wife are trying their best to make ends meet and take care of their young children.
The 25-year-old mother is in a training program from which she hopes to graduate this year.
"She's in school. She got her GED, and she's trying to better herself with her education," their caseworker said.
The father, 27, was born outside the United States and is working toward citizenship. He currently does seasonal work, earning about $12,600 a year that helps pay the bills, although the family never has enough left over to purchase furniture for their home.
"He wants to provide for his family, but with income, paying your rent and utilities you don't have much left," the caseworker said. "They just need a little help right now."
The family receives about $250 in food stamps during months when the father is not working, although the caseworker said that amount varies. They receive some rent assistance but still pay about $350 per month plus utilities.
The caseworker says the married couple does a good job keeping their house neat and clean, but they currently sleep on air mattresses with their 3-year-old and 1-year-old.
