She's a mom of a 2-year-old girl with autism.
That situation alone creates challenges for this 35-year-old mom, who is raising the daughter alone because the father is not around.
"It makes it hard on them, for sure," the family's caseworker said.
They live with the woman's mother, sharing expenses as best they can. The mother receives about $725 a month in disability payments for herself and about $700 for the little girl, along with $16 in food stamps.
She helps with utilities and property taxes on her mom's home, along with food and household expenses.
It's a meager existence in their rural area, but they get by. Years of neglected dental care left the mom's teeth in terrible condition and she has had all of them removed.
While Medicaid paid for that surgery, it does not cover dentures she now needs. Without dentures, her health is further compromised, because she cannot eat proper foods.
