'Occupy Century' dwellers now a bunch of happy campers
Century Aluminum retirees have been holding an "Occupy Century Aluminum" camp since mid-December as part of their campaign to have their health benefits reinstated. The company and retirees finally reached an agreement for a partial restoration Wednesday.
An emotional Karen Gorrell, who helped organize the retirees, said people like U.S. Sen. Jay Rockefeller aide Wes Holden and fellow retiree Sonny Hinzman helped her endure the long, drawn-out struggle to get benefits reinstated.
Gorrell thanked God for the unusually warm winter, which has helped the older retirees endure the long days and nights of their "Occupy" camp at Century's plant entrance along W.Va. 2.
Ravenswood Mayor Lucy Harbert says after the downturn following the aluminum plant's closure, she is looking forward to her town turning things around.
