ST. ALBANS, W.Va. -- A fugitive from Wood County accused of taking money from a South Charleston couple in a home repair scam was arrested in St. Albans.
St. Albans Capt. James Agee said in a press release the man, identified as Stephen L. Kilborn, 49, of Charleston, told the South Charleston couple he needed money to buy supplies and equipment for the job and was given $200 by the couple, police said.
They never heard from Kilborn after giving him the money, police said.
Patrolman Dan Wyatt received a tip about the incident and found out the man was wanted in Wood County for violating his parole.
Wyatt contacted Kilborn and lured him to a St. Albans home, asking him to do some repair work for him, Agee said.
Kilborn was arrested when he arrived at the home as a fugitive from justice, the release said.
South Charleston police charged the man with fraudulent scheming and obtaining money under false pretenses.Kilborn is being held at South Central Regional Jail. His bond was set at $100. But because he is a fugitive he cannot be released, jail officials said.
