Young man found dead in Charleston highrise
Charleston police are investigating after an Alabama man was found dead in an apartment building on the city's West Side.
Kanawha Metro 911 dispatchers said they received a report of a body about 10 a.m. Thursday in the Jarrett Terrace apartment building on Central Avenue. Police found the man's body in an apartment on one of the upper floors of the building.
Charleston Sgt. Eric Hodges, assistant chief of detectives, identified the man as Michael Vincent Rogers, 19, of Mobile, Ala. Detectives said Rogers suffered a gunshot wound to his torso on the left front side. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The body has been sent to the state Medical Examiner's office for an autopsy. Charleston detectives have not yet determined the nature of the shooting and still are investigating.A secretary at the police department said the detectives still were at the scene late Thursday afternoon.
