CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- A Charleston man was arrested after police found him with heroin in a Fort Hill-area home.
Zachary Francis Jones, 21, of Bays Road was taken into custody Monday after Charleston police found heroin belonging to him in his girlfriend's Leslie Road residence. Jones is the son of Charleston Mayor Danny Jones.
Patrolman O.B. Morris went to the woman's house Monday after receiving multiple complaints concerning drug activity there. Jones answered the door and allowed Morris inside after he explained why he had come, according to a complaint filed in Kanawha Magistrate Court.
Jones told the officer that there was an illegal substance in the kitchen and led the officer there. The woman, Amber Carr, handed the officer a plate holding 10 lines of heroin.
Jones told the officer the heroin was his and that he'd bought it the day before. He said the 10 lines on the plate were all that was left.
Jones was charged with simple possession of heroin, a misdemeanor. His bond was set at $10,000 property or 10 percent cash. He was released Tuesday.
