CHARLESTON, W.Va. - Police said an eastern Kanawha County man shot another man to death in the street after an argument.
Kanawha sheriff's deputies were called to the 5300 block of Elaine Drive in Rand just before 1 a.m. Thursday to answer a report of a shooting.
Cpl. B.E. Borchers arrived and found the victim, William Cordle II, 21, lying by the street with a single gunshot wound to the chest, Lt. Bryan Robbins said in a release.
Cordle was taken to Charleston Area Medical Center's General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Investigators were called to the scene to begin interviewing witnesses.
Erica Ratliff told Lt. Greg Young she was driving on Elaine Drive with Eddie Chapman when she saw a man staggering on the street before falling into a ditch, according to a criminal complaint.
Ratliff and Chapman approached the man to check on him but found him injured and unresponsive.
They went across the street to a home to call for help. Brent Burdette, 19, of Elaine Drive was standing in the living room when the two entered and told him someone had been shot.
Burdette told them "he was the one that shot him because he was running his mouth," according to the complaint.
