CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Traffic beside and near the Charleston Civic Center will be affected Sunday afternoon as people gather there for State Police Cpl. Marshall Lee Bailey's memorial service at 2 p.m. and later as a procession of vehicles departs for his burial in Poca.
Beginning at 10 a.m. Sunday, Clendenin Street will be closed between Lee and Quarrier streets between the Civic Center and the Charleston Town Center Mall. Police officials say they expect traffic around the Civic Center on Pennsylvania Avenue, Lee and Quarrier streets to be very heavy after 1 p.m. as law enforcement officials from throughout the region join others to honor Bailey.
Following the memorial service, portions of Lee and Quarrier streets and Pennsylvania Avenue will be closed temporarily while the funeral and law enforcement procession leaves the Civic Center and heads toward Poca. Traffic on I-64 westbound will also be affected as the procession moves onto the interstate.
Authorities estimate that the processional will begin sometime around 3:30 or 4:00 p.m.
