Police found a vehicle on Charleston's West Side that was stolen from an older man during a violent carjacking last week.
Charleston detectives found the Honda Accord parked in the 500 block of Wyoming Street Monday afternoon, said Lt. Steve Cooper, chief of detectives.
Emery Casdorph, 65, was at the Chase Bank drive-through ATM on Virginia Street about 12:15 a.m. Thursday when two black men wearing dark-colored hoodies approached him, Cooper said.
They pointed a gun at him and demanded his bank card and PIN.
They were apparently unable to get any money out of the machine.
They put Casdorph in his car and drove him to a bank on Kanawha Boulevard West where they again could not get any money, Cooper said. They beat Casdorph with a handgun and left him on the West Side, taking off in his vehicle.
Casdorph was able to call for help and was taken to St. Francis Hospital, from which he apparently has been released.
Cooper said the two suspects are armed. Officers are searching for the pair but have not yet identified them.
The detective said the car would be checked for DNA and fingerprints. He hopes someone saw the pair dump the car or leave the area.
"This is not a common crime in this area," Cooper said. "We are looking for the thugs that committed this disgusting act."
