CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- A Logan County man was charged in the death of his girlfriend's toddler.
Nicholas Turkale, 25, of Amherstdale was arrested Wednesday evening hours after his girlfriend's 2-year-old son died at a Charleston hospital, said Trooper L.D. Hensley of the Logan detachment.
Hensley said troopers C.D. Kuhn and P.A. Jones went to the hospital Tuesday morning after being notified of a child brought in from Logan County with a suspicious head injury.
Turkale, who lives with the child's mother, gave troopers a confession on how the injury occurred, leading officers to file charges against him, Hensley said. Turkale said both he and the child's mother were in the home at the time of the incident.
The trooper would not say what Turkale's explanation for the injury was.
Turkale was charged Wednesday night with murder and murder of a child by a custodian. He is being held at Southwestern Regional Jail without bond.
Troopers still are investigating.
