A Kanawha County man has been indicted by a grand jury on a charge of first-degree murder in the shooting death of a Charleston man in July.
Brent Burdette, 19, of Rand is charged with killing William Cordle, 21, during a fight. Police said Cordle was shot in the street in the 5300 block of Elaine Drive in Rand on July 13.
Burdette was arrested at a trailer park in the Campbells Creek area shortly afterward. He is being held without bond at South Charleston Regional Jail and will be arraigned before Circuit Judge Charles King on Nov. 7. Burdette is scheduled to appear in front of Kanawha Circuit Judge Charles King on Nov. 7 at 1:30 p.m. for his arraignment.
In all, the grand jury handed down indictments against 51 defendants this week. An indictment is a not a finding of guilt; it means that a grand jury has found enough evidence to warrant a criminal trial.
