Drug bust nets more than $32,000 in cash, marijuana
CHARLESTON, W.Va. - Deputies say they found more than $10,000 cash and about $22,000 worth of marijuana in a Marmet man's home.
Members of the Kanawha Sheriff's STOP team performed a "knock and talk" at the Quantz Road home of Arthur Elkins, 48, Wednesday afternoon.
Cpl. C.M. Morgan said deputies had been investigating drug activity in the area. Deputies received numerous tips and complaints about heavy traffic in and out of Elkins' home.
A search of Elkins' home turned up a little more than $10,000 in small bills in a locked safe in the bedroom. Deputies also found about 5 pounds of marijuana in the trunk of an abandoned car on Elkins' property, Morgan said.
Morgan said the money was believed to be from drug profits.
No weapons were found. Deputies said they had encountered Elkins in the past.
Elkins was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to deliver. He is being held at South Central Regional Jail.
