Firefighters responded to a house fire just before 6 a.m. Thursday on Charleston's West Side, a Kanawha County dispatcher said.
The house at 1613 Seventh Ave. was vacant and no injuries were reported, the dispatcher said.
The house is one of 13 owned by Mountain Mission and was scheduled to be demolished to make way for the organization's planned outreach center, said John Roberts, Mountain Mission executive director.
"We've tried to keep everything boarded up and secured," he said. "We own it and all the structures around it. It was already scheduled to be demolished."Officials said the fire was set in an upstairs portion of the house, he said. Roberts, who is thankful nobody was hurt, said demolition would be hastened over the next few days.
