Black ice was reported on roads around the region this morning, but few accidents occurred as people made the New Year's Eve commute.
A dispatcher with Kanawha County Metro 911 said black ice was responsible for a single-vehicle crash in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 64 near Institute at about 5:45 a.m.
No injuries were reported, but an occupant of the vehicle had to be cut out of the automobile, the dispatcher said.
Another crash occurred in the northbound lanes of Interstate 77 at 8:23 a.m. near the Chelyan tollbooth.
A dispatcher with the West Virginia Turnpike Authority was unsure of the cause of the accident. However, the vehicle did flip over the guardrail. No injuries were reported and both lanes of the interstate remained open.
