Fayette County bus driver accused of sexual assault
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- A Fayette County bus driver has been accused of assaulting a 14-year-old girl, according to a school official and media reports.
Steven R. Malay was arraigned Friday in Fayette County Magistrate Court on five separate charges, said Keith Butcher, superintendent of Fayette County Schools. Malay faces two counts of third-degree sexual assault and two counts of sexual abuse by a person of trust, Butcher said.
He said he could not talk about the particulars of the case, but that it is under investigation by local law enforcement.
Malay, 54, was arrested Thursday, according to WVVA-TV in Beckley. The station reports he is free on bond.
Butcher was not sure how long Malay has worked as a bus driver in Fayette County. He said Malay is still an employee, but "appropriate disciplinary actions" have been taken and Malay is currently not at work.
Fayette County Schools are safe, and the school systems takes the code of conduct seriously, Butcher said.
