MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -- West Virginia University police need help identifying the rightful owner of an urn believed to contain human ashes.
Capt. Phil Scott says it's been outdoors on a wooded lot for a while. But Scott says it's not related to another case in which cremains were stolen from a vehicle.
Barrackville resident Fritz Lockwood tells the Dominion Post (http://bit.ly/VPzDsW) his father's ashes were in a plastic box inside a black bag on the floor of his car as ran errands recently.
Lockwood planned to buy an urn at the Walmart in Fairmont, and he carried the box for measurements.
State Police say they've found no clues on surveillance video from stores that Lockwood visited.
Lockwood says the thief can keep $450 in stolen gift cards.
He just wants the ashes back.
