Oak Hill man charged with murder

OAK HILL, W.Va. -- An Oak Hill man has been charged with murder in connection with a shooting on Thursday afternoon, according to a news release from Michael W. Whisman, chief of the Oak Hill Police Department.

Police responded to a 911 call at 3:30 p.m. Thursday in regard to a shooting at the corner of Mahan Street and Highlawn Avenue in the East End of Oak Hill. Upon arrival officers found a victim who had apparently suffered a gunshot wound.

The victim, Maurice McCain, 25, of Oak Hill, was transported to Plateau Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead, authorities said.

Terreque Alj Gray, 23, of Oak Hill, was charged with murder and placed in Southern Regional Jail pending arraignment by a circuit judge.

Officials were not releasing further information.The investigation is being handled by Oak Hill Police Department with assistance from state police and the Fayette County Sheriff's Department.
