HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -- A female Marshall University student was sexually assaulted Monday night near Marshall's Huntington campus.
According to an email sent to Marshall University students Tuesday evening, the incident happened about 11 p.m. Monday as the student was walking alone to her car, which was parked on the 500 block of 20th Street across from campus.
The sexual assault comes in the wake of two separate armed robberies within blocks of Marshall's campus on Saturday, Jan. 19, and Monday, Jan. 21.The Huntington Police Department has arrested three suspects in connection with the armed robberies.
The Huntington Police Department is investigating the sexual assault allegations. The Marshall University Police Department has increased patrols in the area and is gathering additional information about the recent crimes, in conjunction with the Huntington Police Department.Marshall Police Department Chief James Terry was unavailable for comment Wednesday.
